To cut insoles to size, you must trace the original one. You can also cut the sides. Make sure you follow a guide before you cut the insoles. If they are too wide, you can always trim them further. If they are too narrow, you can’t make them larger. You must be sure to measure the insoles properly before beginning the cutting process. Here are some easy steps to follow:
Trim less rather than more
There are some situations in which you might want to trim your insoles to a smaller size than what you have already purchased. For example, you may want to use a smaller insole to improve the fit and support of your shoes. However, you may not be able to trim the insoles in every type of shoe, and you may want to check with the manufacturer of your shoes to ensure that trimming your insoles is the right way to go.
While most insoles are sold by size, there are several types of insoles that you can purchase and trim to fit your feet better. Superfeet and Powerstep make a line of insoles that are not trim-to-size but can be trimmed to fit. Superfeet Carbon insoles are the thinnest, while Powerstep Pinnacle insoles are the second thinnest. Both of these brands sacrifice cushion for their thinness, which is a great option if you have tight-fitting shoes.
Before trimming your insoles, trace the original insole to ensure a proper fit. If you need to make adjustments, you can also cut the sides of the insoles. Just make sure to double check your cutting guide before proceeding with the cut. You can always trim the insoles a little bit more, but never to a larger size! The insoles should be aligned from heel to toe. If the new insole is too long or too short, you may have to cut a smaller piece of the original to get it to overlap the original one.
Trim along the line you have marked
To make the insoles shorter, measure the length of your shoe and mark the midpoint of the length. Then, measure the length between the midpoint and your toe. Then, add one third of a millimeter to the length of the insole. This measurement is also called the captoe length. The captoe length is approximately one third of the length between the midpoint and the tip of the toe. It should follow the natural curvature of the foot. Neither too short nor too long is good.
After measuring the length, trace around the insole’s toe area. Cut along the marked line. Repeat the process for the second insole. The second insole should fit inside the liner. This is a simple way to make sure it is the correct size. Once you’ve cut the insole to size, you can start remaking it. This method can be useful for adjusting the fit of your shoes, but it’s not recommended for all types of shoes.
If you don’t know your measurements, you can use a piece of stiff card to trace the length of your insoles. Make sure it’s large enough to fit inside the shoe. Mark the measurement P1 through P6 on the card. You’ll also need to mark a datum line between P1 and P2. This line helps you determine all the dimensions of your insoles.
